NZ RWR MEMBERS, FEES AND LAND BASE : A MSG FROM STEVE L (TREASURER)
Hi folks, As you all know our fees we pay each week go into an account which is the RWR's land base account. We have all been saving for RWR's own bit of land for RWR members and families to live on for a few years now and have quite a substantial sum saved but not nearly enough for a deposit yet. Recently some lower North Island members have been talking about having the land base in the Wairarapa where there are some rural properties at realistic prices. Usually these sorts of places get cheaper as they get further out and away from the main provincial town in that area. That is if a small farm or life style block is 50km from town then it's usually cheaper than if it's 20km from town. If there is a cottage on the property the Leader would live in that and the others would reside in the out buildings and tents and caravans etc and it would grow from there with all members helping to pay the mortgage unless by some miracle it has been purchased out right and with no large loan owing. Anyway RWR can't invest in a land base yet because we just haven't got enough of a deposit but it will happen eventually if we are patient and very careful. A decent land base will set us back in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and a loan will be necessary to fund this so RWR needs every fee paying member to participate in this and keep paying their fees. Because RWR can't buy into anything at this stage the lower North Island members are going it alone and talking about raising their own money by way of sausage sizzles and donations and so on. They also have another method for raising funds for their little scheme and that's by telling present fee paying members that the current RWR fee paying account is invalid and members should now start paying into another account run by them alone and I guess new members will be told to pay into their account too. One of these members was seen to say on Facebook recently ' united we stand divided we fall '. It might well be that person should need his own advice and rethink his strategy because this sort of action will indeed eventually divide us if it hasn't already started to. Continuing to try and drag current RWR members away to pay into a separate account is not only divisive but very disloyal and people should think very carefully about it before they decide to sign over. Having two land bases would be great but the way they are going about raising the funds is wrong. Hey guys stick to the sausage sizzles and the gumboot throwing contest. The current RWR fee paying account is the legitimate account and is still very much valid. This account has a lot at stake and we have the power to reach our goal in the not to distant future. Hail.
